Sumera is deeply engaged with the local arts community through her role as one of the directors of the board at Union Gallery, her presence at the Tett Centre’s Creativity Studio Space, participation in exhibitions, curatorial and jury roles, Development Council member at Modern Fuel and the 2024 Twofold Residency with Union Gallery and Modern Fuel. She is the founder of the Urban Sketchers Hub, a group that gathers regularly to sketch together at local spots around Kingston.

She leads community arts programs, including programs at the Kingston Senior Centre. She has received multiple grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from Kingston Arts Council & City of Kingston (CKAF 2025). Her work connects people through the meaningful stories in everyday life.
